    2. Joseph was already in Egypt
    3. Jacob and family was bout 70 persons.
  2. New King over Egypt
    1. He did not know Joseph
    2. He noticed the children of Israel were more and mightier than the Egyptians
    3. He decided to deal shrewdly w/ Israel
      1. He set taskmasters over them to built supply cities, Pithom and Raamses
      2. the more they afflicted them the more they multiplied and grew - enough to worry the Egyptians.
      3. He made them serve with rigor
      4. they made their lives bitter and hard
    4. He spoke to Hebrew midwives - Shiphrah & Puah
      1. if a son kill, if a daughter live
    5. But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them 
      1. they saved the male children alive
      2. when asked by king about this - they explained that Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women - they are more lively and give before before the midwives come.
      3. therefore - God dealt well with the midwives
      4. God provided household for them because they feared God
    6. The people multiplied and grew very mighty
